Stepping Stones

Stepping Stones Pre-School and Pre-K operated for an additional year, and the sounds of happy children were a comfort to the Sisters who stayed on campus to manage the Academy's closing. Stepping Stones finally closed in June 2007.

Stepping Stones Pre-School and Pre-K* at Sacred Heart Academy are non-profit, non-sectarian schools for three- to five-year old children. Established in 1987, we are licensed by the State of Connecticut and fully approved by the City of Stamford's Health and Fire Departments. Stamford Public Health services are available to the children enrolled at Stepping Stones. We closely follow the Stamford public school calendar.

Stepping Stones Pre-School and Pre-K are located on the former campus of Sacred Heart Academy. We are set back from Strawberry Hill Avenue on ten beautifully landscaped acres. Both facilities offer large, cheerful rooms and a well-equipped outdoor area with swings, sandbox, riding toys and climbing equipment. The gymnasium is available for large motor development during inclement weather.

The Pre-School and Pre-K are open as early as 7:45 AM for those needing early drop-off, and school begins at 9:00 AM. Optional extended day care is available from 12:00-4:30 PM. The Pre-School program is located in the lower level of the convent building. The Pre-K program is located in the lower level of the Academy building. The Pre-School offers a two, three or five day program for three- and four-year olds. The Pre-K offers a five day program for four-year olds.

The schools are staffed by accredited early childhood professionals who are trained in pediatric first aid. The staff is chosen for their compassion, knowledge and experience in working with young children.

The philosophy of Stepping Stones Pre-School and Pre-K is to encourage physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth through carefully planned programs. Each day at Stepping Stones offers a fun, hands-on learning experience through music, arts and crafts, reading readiness, math readiness, dramatic play and outdoor play. This is provided in a loving and nurturing atmosphere where the safety and happiness of each child is our first priority.

*The Pre-K's accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children is a status enjoyed by only 7% of early education schools.
